On December 3, 2014, the US Embassy hosted a virtual Ebola Reporting workshop intending to train and improve journalists reporting skills. 25 reporters from 18 media outlets (Radio, television, print and online media) attended the training. The workshop began with a video featuring remark from representatives of the Department of State, the Centers for Disease Control and the United States Agency for International Development and focused on a case study of Ebola reporting, and reporters examined best practices for reporting health issues and how to find data. They also discussed improving reporting on the disease and received information about common myths or misperceptions appearing in Ebola reporting and how to avoid pitfalls going forward. Journalists had the opportunity to ask questions concerning safety in obtaining testimonials from Ebola patients, best ways of containing the outbreak, and avoiding stigma.
