Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale met on February 10, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, with Prime Minister Christophe Joseph Marie Dabire. He expressed solidarity with the people of Burkina Faso and reaffirmed America’s support in the fight against terrorism and continued assistance for Burkina Faso’s humanitarian response. He reiterated the need for continued progress in strengthening protections for human rights, democratic good governance, civilian authority, and the rule of law.  Under Secretary Hale also met with Minister of Defense Cheriff Moumina Sy. He underscored American support for increased regional engagement in the Sahel, including through ECOWAS, and discussed the need for comprehensive solutions to restore stability and address the root causes of violent extremism.
