U.S. Ambassador Andrew Young and U.S. Embassy Ouagadougou staff with family members participated in the final stretch of the Tour du Faso on November 3, 2019.
The American riders completed one 4.5 Km bicycle ride along the final lap of the Tour du Faso in downtown Ouagadougou. “The ride is a demonstration of our solidarity with Burkina Faso,” Ambassador Young said, “It is important for the country to continue cultural and sporting activities that bring the people together during challenging times.”
The U.S. Embassy celebrates its second year of support for the internationally renowned bike race. Ambassador Young donated 31 bicycles to the Burkinabe cycling Federation to reinforce the engagement and partnership with the Tour.
“Sports has the unique power to bring people together, and the United States values its relationship with Burkinabe people,” Ambassador Young said. He added, “The fantastic Burkinabe spirit of inclusion and tolerance is on display for all to see.”
The Tour du Faso is one of many Burkinabe cultural and sporting activities supported by the U.S. Embassy in Burkina Faso. U.S. engagement is more than a project that will benefit a limited few, but an evolving partnership with the people of Burkina Faso.
