Event: Civilians warned to seek shelter, schools closed nationally
The Embassy urges U.S. citizens to avoid the area around the Monument of National Heroes (“Monuments des Martyrs”) and surrounding area due to heavy military presence and roadblocks there. Reportedly, local security forces have advised the civilian population to seek shelter and stay off the streets.
The Ministry of Education issued a communique closing schools nationwide until further notice. The airport remains closed.
