From September 9 to 13, Peace Corps Volunteers facilitated a Science Camp in the eastern capital region of Fada in Burkina Faso. The Science Camp had five goals: 1) Educate students on the importance and methodology of water sanitation and treatment; 2) Expose students to scientific thinking; 3) Expose students to the relevance of science in daily life; 4) Expose students to opportunities in the scientific fields; and 5) Empower teachers to practice different teaching techniques. Each of these goals were met, as indicated in the pre and post test results, which demonstrated how much the students had actually learned. As for the Burkinabe teachers, they will bring back what they learned at the Science Camp to their own schools and use their acquired skills in the classrooms for years to come.
