Message for U.S. Citizens: Holiday Personal Security Awareness

Event: The U.S. Embassy in Burkina Faso would like to remind U.S. citizens living in Burkina Faso to exercise caution and follow appropriate personal security practices during local holidays.  Leading up to and in the weeks surrounding holidays, there may be an increase in crime, security-related incidents, and vehicle accidents.

Actions to Take: 

  • Avoid all crowds and gatherings.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Avoid taking photographs or videos of any demonstrations, which could attract attention and antagonize the crowd.
  • Exercise caution at any checkpoints.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
  • Keep a low profile
