Humphrey Alumnus and President of Reporters du Faso Louis Oulon used a Public Diplomacy grant to conduct two day training on Media and Democracy, with a special focus on using new media.  This is part of our ICS goal on building democratic institutions, which includes professionalizing the media.  Guest speakers were from various media houses and levels of experience. The group of 25 journalists had plenty of discussion time.  Oulon himself led a session on counter-terrorism and the Econ officer (a former Wall St Journal reporter) led a discussion on “Investigative Journalism.”  Reporters came from around the country, and a special effort was made to find female journalists.  The PAO led the closing ceremony and talked about freedom of the press.
