April 29-30, 2015, the U. S. Embassy trained 29 English teachers, inspectors, and advisors of the Central Plateau Region in Ziniaré. In support of its goals for economic growth and development through education, the U. S. Embassy Ouagadougou is carrying out a country-wide tour providing training to English teaching professionals in all 13 regions of Burkina Faso during the 2014/2015 academic year. English Program Specialist Lynn Hanson Ouédraogo and English Language Fellows from the USA are training teachers to better align learning objectives, lesson activities, and assessments to promote improved English proficiency outcomes for secondary school students. Since December 2014, the Intelligence Tour has covered the cities and regions of Gaoua, Banfora, Bobo-Dioulasso, Ouahigouya, Kaya, Dori, Dédougou, Koudougou, Pô, and Manga. The 29 participants of this two-day workshop in Ziniaré teach 9,255 students in 16 communities in the Central Plateau Region. This workshop provided valuable in-service training for these teachers who are being inspired to change their teaching practice as evidenced by the comments of a teacher from Ourgou-Manéga who said, “From now on my lessons will be planned and taught from the students’ perspective.”
