May 4-5, 2015, the U. S. Embassy trained 15 English teachers of the Eastern Region in Fada N’Gourma. In support of its goals for economic growth and development through education, the U. S. Embassy Ouagadougou is carrying out a country-wide tour providing training to English teaching professionals in all 13 regions of Burkina Faso during the 2014/2015 academic year. English Program Specialist Lynn Hanson Ouédraogo and English Language Fellows from the USA are training teachers to better align learning objectives, lesson activities, and assessments to promote improved English proficiency outcomes for secondary school students. Since December 2014, the Intelligence Tour has covered the cities and regions of Gaoua, Banfora, Bobo-Dioulasso, Ouahigouya, Kaya, Dori, Dédougou, Koudougou, Pô, Manga, and Ziniaré. The participants of this two-day workshop teach 5,485 students in the Fada N’Gourma area. This workshop provided valuable in-service training for these teachers who are being inspired to change their teaching practice as evidenced by the comments of one teacher who stated, “I plan to give more opportunities to my students to perform, and I will relate what they do in class to real life situations.”
