March 23, 2020

Location:  Burkina Faso

Event:   EVACUATION INFORMATION

The Burkina Faso Ministry of Health confirmed 100 cases of COVID-19 in Burkina Faso.

On March 14, the Department of State authorized the departure from any diplomatic or consular post in the world of US personnel and family members who have been medically determined to be at higher risk of a poor outcome if exposed to COVID-19.

EVACUATION INFORMATION

During this time of global response to the corona virus, U.S. Embassy Ouagadougou continues operations and prioritizes assistance to American citizens.  With the suspension of commercial air service, Embassy Ouagadougou is attempting to arrange a repatriation flight to the United States, departing Ouagadougou on Wednesday, March 25, en route to Washington D.C. Dulles Airport. Given the possibility there will be additional spaces available for private U.S. citizens, we are evaluating interest in the community of taking advantage of this option. Please contact us immediately at Consularouaga@state.gov, if you are interested. Please include the number of potential passengers, dates of birth and passport numbers.  All responses must be received by 11:00am on March 24 to enable the Embassy to process requests.

It is important to note that these seats are offered at-charge on a first-come, first-served basis to U.S. citizens and, space permitting, non-citizen dependents. Those private citizens seeking to depart are required to sign a promissory note and will be billed at a later date. The Embassy is awaiting details on the cost of the flight and are waiting for additional details concerning the logistics of a potential flight.  Interested parties should verify their passports and other documentation is current and valid.
