On September 8, Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) David K. Young hosted at his residence a poster exhibition on the theme of countering violent extremism. In attendance were representatives from the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the Ministry of Security, as well various stakeholders in the fight against violent extremism. Forty of the 58 posters submitted for the contest were on display, most created by young Burkinabe artists. In his remarks, the DCM said, “While it may be easy to become disheartened, that must not remain our posture. Our response to terrorism is a choice. And I challenge us to respond with resilience.” The contest was intended to raise awareness of violent extremism and inspire hope that peace will prevail. Following the DCM’s remarks, singer/songwriter Patrick Kabre debuted a new song. Ambassador Mushingi ended the evening by presenting certificates to the winners of the poster contest.
