ARS speaker and media consultant George Kazolias encouraged 20 Bobo-Dioulasso-based media workshop participants on one hand and over 20 participants in Ouagadougou on another hand to continue to hold the government accountable even though national and municipal elections have ended. Mr. Kazolias led a two-day workshop in both cities for journalists representing print, online, radio, and television outlets. With over 30 years of experience as a reporter, editor, and professor, and with experience in over 40 African countries, he was very well received by the participants.

He covered ethics, reporting in a crisis, and investigative journalism techniques. Several television and radio outlets interviewed Mr. Kazolias, APAO Todd Sargent, and Information Specialist Josephine Ouedraogo (in a local language). In their interviews, the APAO and Information Specialist described the training as part of the Embassy’s ongoing support for a free and strong press, and underscored the media’s role in a strong democracy.
