July 18, 2014: U.S. Ambassador Tulinabo Mushingi participated in an open-to-the-public Iftar ceremony organized by Public Diplomacy in partnership with CERFI (Islamic Research and Studies Circle). This program coincided with the international Nelson Mandela Service Day and an embassy team led by PD took the opportunity to clean the CERFI mosque in the morning and returned in the evening for the Iftar service. The ceremony offered an opportunity for IVLP imams to share their experiences in the U.S., providing moderate voices for Islam and bridging gaps between perceptions and reality.
Ambassador Mushingi gave brief remarks to encourage the Muslim community during this month of Ramadan. He also read the Ramadan message from President Obama to Muslims around the world and offered books and sugar to the CERFI community.
