
Ambassador Mushingi visited the village of Dierma in the East Center Region as part of the American Road Show and to check progress made by the Community Health Club funded by an American Fulbright scholarship. This Fulbright funded project raised the region’s population awareness on elementary hygiene and health measures during six months in order to avoid transmissible diseases. Created in early 2015, the community health club is an initiative from the collaboration between Fulbright alumni Samy Bendjemil and Moumini Niaone, a Burkinabe doctor. Tuesday, August 18 served as the closing of phase I of their activities placed under the topic “Hygiene and sanitation”. Naaba Boulgou, Chief of Dierma welcomed Ambassador and his delegation and was so impressed that an American came to share the reality of Dierma’s population for several months and added that that it was unbelievable in the past that a U.S. Ambassador visits a remote a village like Dierma.“You are the real actors of change, you are an ideal community. One day the entire Burkina will know the history of Dierma where community health revolution is born» said Samy Benjamil with enthusiasm to the villagers with whom he lived with for several months. Talking about “social revolution” that just happened in Dierma, Doctor Niaone rejoiced that “the community agreed to join him for change”.
